    Civil Rights and Sexual Orientation

Harvard Review Editors, Sexual Orientation and the Law, Cambridge, Harvard University Press, 1989.

Rights, New York, New Press, 1992.

A good resource on gays/lesbians and their legal rights or lack of rights.

Randy Shilts, Conduct Unbecoming, New York, St. Martin's Press, 1993.
Shilts documents the massive harassment and exclusionary violence committed by the U.S. military
to many of their best personnel.

Andrew Sullivan, Virtually Normal: An Argument about Homosexuality, New York, Alfred A. Knopf,
1995.
Sullivan argues for an accomodation to mainstream culture for gay activists.

Urvaishi Vaid, Virtual Equality: The Mainstreaming of Gay & Lesbian Liberation, New York,
Doubleday, 1995.
Vaid brings her front-line experience to the analysis of the gay/lesbian movement in the twentieth
century and useful insight into the future.
