Other Sheep board members, at their April 2016 annual board meeting, officially recognized Pongthor Chanlearn (Tor) of Chiang Mai as Acting Coordinator of Other Sheep in Thailand. With the support of Rev. Ken Dobson, former Thailand Coordinator, Rev. Stephen Parelli and Jose Ortiz, during their 2015 summer visit to Thailand, provisionally invited Tor to take up the position of Other Sheep Coordinator in Thailand. He graciously and enthusiastically agreed to step in as Acting Coordinator.
Respected nation-wide and internationally for his pro-LGBT work as Director of MPlus of Chiang Mai, Tor first came to know about Other Sheep through KnooKnow Lahkang, a gay Christian from the Baptist tradition, who had met Parelli at an annual, world-wide ILGA (International Lesbian and Gay Association) conference. Upon their 2009 visit to Thailand, Thor sponsored an impromptu meeting, at his MPlus facilities, for Parelli and Ortiz, inviting local Christian theological students and other activists to come and be introduced to the ministry of Other Sheep.
In the area of religion, Thor is a Buddhist with sympathies towards Christianity and a focus on inter-faith relations and activism. As Acting Coordinator of Other Sheep in Thailand, he hopes to explore further the validity and possibility of distributing the book The Children Are Free in Thailand among Christians as a tool for gauging interest in furthering Other Sheep work in Thailand. Also, he will be on the lookout for a permanent Coordinator within Christian circles who can serve in this capacity.
