In the October 2016 Board Meeting of Other Sheep, Eliel (Ulises) Corona of Santo Domingo, was officially recognized as the Coordinator for Other Sheep in the Dominican Republic.  As Coordinator, Eliel says he wants “to raise awareness in the Dominican Republic about the exclusion of LGBT people from their churches, mosques, synagogues and any other religious communities.”

Eliel says his aim is to provide training seminars to religious leaders on the topic of the Bible and homosexuality and to help LGBT people of faith, who are seeking God, to become connected to inclusive churches, ministries or movements in the Dominican Republic.

Eliel completed his bachelor degree at Luis Hess College in 2009.  As of September 2016, Eliel has completed 9 semesters as a medical student at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo.  His religious leadership experience includes working with MCC (Metropolitan Community Church) of Santo Domingo (2012-2013) and founder of Ministerio Servidores de YHWH, a faith-based ministry for the LGBT community.  He has volunteered with ASA (Amigos Siempre Amigos), the main NGO for LGBT rights in the Dominican Republic.  At the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Eliel has received training in social leadership and how to initiate and conduct projects.

In February of 2016 (for a week) and in the summer of 2016 (for two weeks), Eliel worked with Rev. Steve Parelli (Executive Director of Other Sheep) and Jose Ortiz (Other Sheep Liaison to Africa and Asia) in three regions in the Dominican Republic conducting one LGBT outreach seminar, one pastors and laypersons’ seminar, engaging the media which resulted in one on-line live TV interview and one published newspaper interview, material distribution outreach to a limited number of  pastors, and networking with other activists and pro-LGBT religious leaders of the Dominican Republic.

Eliel is proficient in Spanish (his native language). He is intermediate in English (speaking, reading and writing).
